Of Dreams Passed Down
The below poem is about how the dreams we have can inspire others, even if life just never makes them come true for us the way we imagined. So keep dreaming.
Of Dreams Passed Down
A man once passed a flowered field
in country lands unclaimed
and set within his heart a dream
of home here someday framed
yet going on, the man fell ill,
fast landing in some debt
though in his heart the dream burned on
for so his heart was set
the sun will rise, morning again
a place where dreams can be
where I will become whole once more
and rest in that country
some years then passed, the debt repaid
as war rose in its place
consuming that calm field with fire,
but still his dream he chased
the sun will rise, morning again
a place where dreams can be
where I will become whole once more
and rest in that country
yet war dragged on ’til wrinkled skin
laid him low in death’s bed
where in a faint and wispy voice
his child heard last words said
the sun will rise, morning again
a place where dreams can be
where I will become whole once more
and rest in that country
with war and violence now gone
the child’s heart swelled within
and bore him thence to lay him low
and bid him to heaven
then casting eyes upon the scene
in tears was moved to stay
and framed a home to join him there
’til old, and fat, and gray
